Trash was collected by local high school students and community members, loads of bark spread to create and maintain trails, and native seed spread on a restoration site. Our friends at WEEDIN joined us as well to educate folks about invasive plants. The first is a Red-legged frog, which habitats wetland areas of the Willamette Valley. Steve found this one in a pond in an old forest growth area of the upper Siletz River.The second photo he sent is of a green heron apparently doing yoga! Today (Monday, Oct. 20), I saw 4 beautiful males flying along the Amazon Headwaters trail in the rain.  The females do not fly.  These Scarab beetles are in the genus Pleocoma, and there are several species in the northwest. Note the front legs which are modified for grasping prey. They inject their prey (including insects, small fish, and tadpoles) with saliva which digests tissue after which the mixture is sucked out. They planted nearly 150 plants and mulched about 60 of those. They are domestic ducks originally from Mexico/Central America.
