Family Exploration Days are Back!

Family Exploration Day
Saturday, April 1st

Tsanchiifin Walk

It is that time of year again--come discover the West Eugene Wetlands with your family in a day of unstructured, independent exploration!

We provide a backpack of binoculars, field guides, bug net, hand magnifier, and bug boxes, you bring your curiosity and sense of adventure! Drop by anytime between 10am and 2pm to check out your backpack. WREN staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions. This event is FREE and families are encouraged!

Participants should park in the West Eugene Wetlands Partnership Office lot at 751 S. Danebo Ave. Eugene, OR 97402. Or, take the Fern Ridge Bike Path west of the Beltline underpass and look for the red house on the hill! Look for the WREN tent to check out your pack.

Turtle Wetland Wander

Golden Gardens Park

Want to learn more about Oregon's native turtles? Join WREN and City of Eugene ecologist Lauri Holts for a special TURTLE themed wander! Golden Gardens Park provides year-round water and protected habitat for the western pond turtle, and they are often spotted sunning on logs in its ponds.

Directions to Golden Gardens Park: From Hwy 99, west on Barger, Right on Golden Gardens Street. Meet at the intersection of Golden Gardens Street and Jessen Drive.

WREN Wanders are casual walks through various West Eugene Wetlands sites each second Tuesday of every month. These exciting opportunities are FREE to the public and provide observation, education and inspiration in our surrounding natural spaces. WREN staff and volunteers will guide this walk. Participants should bring water and wear muck boots. WREN will provide binoculars.

Special Lichen Walk

Wild Iris Ridge

Rescheduled after the ice storm in January, our Wild Iris Ridge exploration of Willamette Valley lichens with lichenologist Daphne Stone is back on! Hosted this month at Wild Iris Ridge, owned by the City of Eugene, this 228 acre property boasts a wide range of plant communities, including upland prairie and oak savanna, excellent wildlife habitat, stunning vistas, and...lichens!

Directions to Wild Iris Ridge: From west 18th, turn south onto Bailey Hill Road. Turn left on Warren St. and go 1/3 mile; Turn right to stay on Warren Street. Turn right on Summit Terrace. Turn right again on Bailey View and follow it to the end.
